Steps to Hiring a Good Corporate Magician

A good corporate magician can take many forms. Finding the right act, for your particular needs, is not all that difficult but requires a few steps to bring off the “wow” performance that you are hoping for. A corporate magician is not your typical magic fare. They can fill many needs in your entertainment plans but do require some attention so they know what is expected of them. Follow these basic steps and ideas when hiring a corporate magician and you can be sure that your entertainment will astound and amaze. The very first step is quite simple, make sure you can get in touch with the performer when they are on the road performing.

Review your budget

The type of corporate magician you want and the type of magician you can afford will differ markedly. The more criteria you place on the magician the more the magician will cost. Start by writing down a wish list of what you would like from the magician. This list might include: big tricks, close-up tricks, walking tricks, fun tricks, poke fun tricks, verbal banter and what not. Next, find an agency and ask about their stable of magicians. If your budget is smaller you may have a larger list to choose from but the quality and quantity of tricks will go down. If your budget is somewhat reasonable ask about the corporate magician circuit. These magicians are more experience and have a better idea of what you may want but they cost more. The general rule of thumb is that magicians start at the bottom for smaller events and work their way up in experience and cost. The more you want, the more they cost.

Interview for style in addition to experience

When interviewing your potential corporate magician keep in mind the type of event that you are planning. If the event is a Caribbean type tented event, having an act that is used to a large stage, black hat and tails probably won’t work. Yes, the magician should be able to offer a variety of illusions that “wow” the audience with age appropriateness, but check to see what personality they bring as they do it. A staid audience will react differently then a light hearted one depending upon the magician.
Interview for special needs

There are several ways to use a corporate magician in addition to a straight out performance. Be creative with what you want and interview to see if that magician can meet your needs.

Check memberships

Due diligence is a very good idea when you are hiring any corporate entertainment. A poor act at an important event will reflect on you very quickly. More then one poor choice can put you in a place you would rather not be. If you do not check out the entertainment personally, make darn sure that you trust the person you have entrusted the checking to. From this perspective, if the act has listed membership affiliations check them to make sure they are a member.

Follow-up to be sure

If you have hired a good corporate magician they will have a fairly full schedule of dates that they are filling. Be sure that you confirm all details of time, place, expectations and payment agreements. Always confirm the details a week or two before the event and you will get a great show from your corporate magician.
