The Artists Famously Known as the Mimes

It has been known that throughout the entertainment industry that there are several kinds of actors, performers and artists. For some being creative sets the difference, it’s not a secret no more that being different separates the exceptional from the rest of the crop. In performing arts, one that has made a lot of praise and entertains many people are the so called Mimes, these artists combines creativeness and showmanship on their performance on a unique scale that they have garnered a lot of attention from the crowd.

It has been a vintage act or performance acting as a Mime, from the early 1920’s it has been popular on Europe and America as well. It started on the streets where performing Mimes uses a lot of illusion to make their performance real. Famous legendary comedians such as Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd made the Mimes act popular on film, in which it is described as “silent film” by the masses. Mimes have a lot of kinds because it evolves as time passes by. More and more Mime artists try to create a new kind of the performance to get a necessary difference from the others.

For classic Mimes who regularly play on theatres they are the ones who are dressed in fitted black clothes and have their face painted in white and details their eyes and lips with black make-up. Their concept is to capture the audience’s imagination without using any props, using an invisible props as they say, the actor tries to mimic some real moves by trying to make it as real as possible for the audience. Famous Mime tricks such as the ladder trick, the glass trick and the rope tricks are often the basic moves of an actor.

It is just fun to watch their performance because they simplifies a lot on the acting, like for example those who are familiar with it loves to see them act as a whole because they define a lot of movements and it makes the audience want to see more and more as they perform. It is popular in the comedy Mr. Bean; the popular English comedian uses principle of the art on his comedic acts. He made a lot of fans mimicking his movements and having lesser words, actually I don’t remember when he really mentions a word.

The more traditional Mimes have extended their stage in the streets. In the streets of France for example, you will see a lot of statue like performers standing still as if they are real cemented icons, but when you try to look at them closely or touch them, they move in different directions or they hold you to surprise you that they are indeed humans and not statues. These types of performers have grown and now can be found in different places in the globe.

There are Mimes whom are dressed as clowns; there are others that use classic costumes. Silence can be deadly but can also be entertaining and enjoyable if done by an awesome cast and experienced performers. Over the years, mimicking the art have grown and are being appreciated by a bigger audience.
