How to Choose the Right Party Entertainers

Choosing the correct party entertainers will make or break your event. If you choose well, you will become a sensation and the envy of all your friends and/or colleagues. If you chose the wrong party entertainers you will end up with crying children and unimpressed adults. The process of choosing the right entertainment is fairly simple if you stick to the basic rules of party planning. You should: know your guests, look for experience, look for variety, look for the whole package and check them out personally.

Know your guests.

Understanding the tastes of your party guests is the very first item on the party planning list. Are your guests 3 year olds that have an attention span of 15 minutes or less, or are they slightly inebriated conventioneers that might enjoy some slightly confusing fun. Understanding your guests is the very first step in choosing party entertainers.

Look for experience

When it comes to arraigning entertainment, there is nothing better then an experienced entertainer. Ask for referrals or contact an agency for ideas but make sure that they have been around for a while and worked with your demographic. If they are experienced, they may actually have a list of questions and options for you to choose from. Referrals from colleges or friends are best but agencies can help.

Look for variety

In many instances, you may have a set of differing demographics on your hands. If the entertainer you choose has experience they may be able to entertain several of your demographics well. They should also have an idea of whether they may need other party entertainers to satisfy several demographics. Entertaining a mixed age group is quite a bit more difficult then one group. Three year olds require a different set of skills then 15 year olds and small groups of adults require different skills then a large group. Party entertainers with multiple skill sets will make your life easier.

The whole package

As with all aspects of party planning there are differing levels of professionalism and product offerings. As you go about looking for entertainment, look for somebody that offers a multitude of services. Perhaps they can bring along added elements like a “moon walk” or other distractions that don’t require somebody to monitor them. Possibly, they know a caterer that can help with food or tables. If the entertainer is good they are likely associated with a fairly small circle of service providers that can help. A crew that has worked together before is a good thing.

Check them out yourself

If at all possible, check out all the party entertainers yourself. Referrals and agencies are a good start but seeing is believing when it comes to entertainers. This is especially true if you’re choosing entertainment for a corporate function. There is nothing that will end a reputation more quickly then poor entertainment for your colleagues.  Getting someone to check the entertainer out for you may be considered delegating but when it comes to party entertainers, it’s on you.
