Picking pockets: the travelers curse

Traveling abroad or even locally can make you a target for would-be criminals out picking pockets. Don’t let yourself become a victim of this despicable crime.

Don’t let your planned travel being ruined by criminals and thieves. Picking pockets has been around for centuries and is learned by street urchins to keep themselves in money and thus in food. There are, in fact, gangs of people who specialize in picking pockets and do it as a concerted effort.

Watch out when traveling abroad. People will come up to you and begin talking in their language and next you know it another is aside of you tugging at your belongings. These types of pick pockets are just outright careless. Purse snatchers fir into this category and although they can get your belongings they do so at severe risk of being spotted.

Picking pockets of tourists is nearly a pastime in most countries. We’re easy targets because we’re busy looking at the scenery, shopping or whatever it is we do to occupy ourselves. By the time we notice our things are missing the thief is long gone and now we have to try to communicate with the local authorities. Don’t let yourself become a victim.

- Traveling Insurance. It sounds silly but can protect you to a fault from being susceptible to charges made onto stolen credits and will also replace your lost cash as well.

- Traveler’s Cheques. This is an obvious one. People that aren’t you can’t cash them and if they’re stolen you can have them replaced.

- Bum Bags. Not the most popular of choices for your fashionable self, but when it comes to picking pockets the bum bag is a great deterrent as it is kept close to your body and is big enough for all your needs such as money, car keys and credit cards.

- Be Aware Of Your Surroundings. It’s very important that whenever you leave your hotel that you are aware of everything around you. Large groups aren’t your friend and can get confusing very fast. Be on the look lout for groups of two to three people. Baggy clothing is a good indicator of nefarious deeds if the climate dictates otherwise.

- Bumping/Touching. Accidents happen and you can be bumped or possibly touched by passersby. These are prime times when you can be the target of those out for picking pockets. Look out for bumps then turn around actions. Check your belongings immediately.

- Wallets. Keep your wallet in your front your pocket. Avoid placing any possessions in your back pocket. This certainly makes your possessions prime targets for those picking pockets.

- Purses. Picking pockets isn’t that hard for women who carry purses. Generally speaking women carry them on the side, on the hip. A pickpocket can walk by and reach in. You should always keep your purse towards your front and a hand on it at all times.

Keeping these simple things in mind can prevent you from being the target of pick pockets. Be it world wide or at home.
